Fashionably Modest... Dress like a lady!

Penny (the manikin) and I pulled this together this morning as an optional dinner outfit or church outfit for Sundays. The dress is a tank dress and would not be considered appropriate on its own. It also has a backless portion in the lower back. I would think we are all in agreement that is  a huge NO, NO! The length on the dress is good so no extender required and it also saved itself from Goddwill. It was actually super simple to make this little ensemble work. Again the dress fabric is nice a light fabric so as not to overheat. The scope neck falls within what I like to call lady like standards so we are good there.

The bright color is nice for any season paired with the right blazer, sweater or cardigan. I chose the black striped blazer made with a jersey material for its comfort and its season appropriateness. The dark blazer still reminds us it is winter and not spring or summer. I added the thin black leather belt outside and around the waste to accentuate  a waistline.Depending on placement if you are vertical challenged like me raise the belt slightly to just below your rib cage and it gives the illusion of height. Go ahead and thank me ;) If it were spring I would consider pairing it with a lighter cardigan in a soft pastel color or navy blue. Another option for the winter season would be a fun chunky wool sweater in a light to medium grey and again a belt to accentuate your waist line.

I would pair this with a sheer nylon for my legs if you wear them and a pair of modest black pointed pumps. That will be another discussion for another day! Ladies he shoes are gettin a little out of control. Heels with spikes don belong in the house of God!. I own a pair by Jessica Simpson pumps with an ankle strap I just love with a decent but modest heel. I kept the jewelry simple and choose pearl earrings. We do not want to look like a Christmas tree when we go to church and be over accessorized.

This outfit would be great for the office as well as a job interview.

I hope you enjoy,

Love - N

Its no secret that when we are moms who stay home with our children getting dolled up everyday just isn't a possibility or practical. Lets face it we are busy trying to make sure our children look presentable and out the door for school we do not have time to focus on glamour city for ourselves in all the shuffling of the morning. My motto is look presentable enough to go into public but be real about what you're wearing and be ready in fifteen minuets flat, no exceptions!  Now we have gone over my beauty regimen depending on the day as to how much makeup I will wear. Today is a no makeup day.We are just getting back to normal after what seems like weeks of illness and I would have loved to go to school in my pajamas but I did need to get out of the car and Madalyn would have died an instantaneous death had I dare step out and walk her in with pajamas. Also, my night gowns would not be appropriate for the topic of MODESTY! So lets get started on the outfit.

First off I am learning that layering is the key to keeping the clothes you have that one would consider immodest. Those deep v-neck tees are easily resolved by putting a scope neck or higher v-neck underneath. The laying tee (the one on the bottom is long) so I am able to wear cable knit sweater leggings without offending any one with my ba-donk-a-donk. It is nicely covered with the length of the tee. The layering tee is also very light weight as I am learning modesty requires multiple layers of clothes and one can over heat quickly, I hate to sweat! I hen paired it with a nice and fun sweater to keep me warm and add a little statement by one of my favorite brand Elan. Topped it off with a bun and loafers and we were out the door. This outfit was under $200. The most expensive thing being my sweater and I have had it for years. Below is a list of where each item was purchased although they are all what I would considered the basics and could be bought anywhere.

  • Deep Grey sheer layering tee - Target $17
  • White V-neck tshirt- Khols - $10
  • Cable knit sweat leggings-  Red Carpet Boutique located here in Parker. Morgan and her staff are absolutely divine.
  • Sweater- Made by Elan and purchased at Angie in Santa Fe, New Mexio. Angela is wonderful to work with and carries a good portion of Elans line. They have the best "statement" sweaters. She also ships.
  • Loafers were purchased on sale a Target for $12 last week.
This a great running errands outfit or hanging out on a Saturday afternoon if you don't have kids. Its just simple and fun.

Be Beautiful..... Dress like a lady!

I will begin putting outfits together daily on myself and my ladykin, we will call her Penny! Between Penny the ladykin and myself we are going to rock the "how to"  fashion of  modest dress and being a fashionable gal. I tend to lean toward a feminine look. This page will touch on all parts of the day of a "mom" from our "mom" attire all the way through Sundays and special occasions.
